Trusting God

At Messy Church, we believe in creating a space where children and families can learn about God in fun, engaging, and memorable ways. This week, Saturday 16th November 2024, our theme was based on the story of Daniel and the Lions’ Den, focusing on the key lessons of trusting God and doing what is right, even when it’s hard.

A Story Full of Fun and Faith

The highlight of our session was when we acted out the story itself. The children took on roles as Daniel, the jealous wise men, the King, guards, lions, and even an angel! With costumes, props, and lots of laughter, the kids brought this powerful story to life.

Through the play, we explored how Daniel trusted God, even when he was thrown into a den full of lions for doing what he knew was right—praying to God. The kids were captivated as they acted out how God protected Daniel by sending an angel to shut the mouths of the lions. It was a fun and interactive way to show how God is always with us, no matter how scary things might seem.

Creative Activities to Reinforce the Message

To help the children connect even more deeply with the story, we had a couple of exciting craft and food activities:

Sewing Craft: Make Your Own Lion and Lioness
The children made their very own lions and lionesses using simple sewing kits. This hands-on activity was a wonderful way to engage their creativity while tying into the story. The little lions even became props during the re-enactment!

If you’d like to try this at home, you can purchase a similar kit here: Lion & Tiger Cushion Sewing Kits from Baker Ross.

Food Craft: Fruity Lions
In another creative twist, the children made edible lions using fruits! We used orange, strawberry and pineapple slices for the mane, bananas for the face, and blueberries for the eyes and nose. Not only did this activity encourage healthy eating, but it also gave the kids a chance to enjoy their creations as a snack after the session.

Music to Remember the Message

Music is a powerful way to help children remember lessons, and our session was packed with fun filled singing. The kids sang songs like My God is So Big, All Through History and Whisper a Prayer in the Morning, which reminded them that God is always there for us. Whether our worries are big or small, He’s waiting to hear from us. Here’s a link to one of the songs, a new song we sang with the kids this week, All Through History.

What We Learned

As parents, we all want to teach our children values that will guide them through life. This week’s story offered a chance to reflect on how we can encourage our kids to rely on God, who gives us the courage to do what is right. Through simple crafts, songs, and stories, the children learned that they can trust God and that He is always ready to listen to their worries.
